About Hyss Audio
I went looking for a sound. It didn't exist yet.
I make music as ALLN: beat-based electronic music built from dusty samples, hazy synths and found dialogue, somewhere between trip hop, IDM and instrumental hip hop. I started Hyss Audio to make the sounds I couldn't find anywhere else.
Why I started
The search for the sound before the song.
Most of my time in the studio goes into searching for the sound that sets the mood before a track can even begin: a pad that feels like a half-remembered afternoon, keys that sound like they've been sitting in a basement for twenty years. I'd stack plugin after plugin trying to get there, and usually come up just short.
So I started Hyss Audio to build the instruments I kept wishing I had. Dustwave is the first. It's a synth that starts out worn-in, with tape wobble, hiss and grit built into the sound, so you can spend less time hunting and more time making music.
Hyss exists to make sounds good enough for someone else's best song.
What Hyss is about
Three rules behind every Hyss instrument.
- 01
Every preset is one I'd use.
If a sound wouldn't make it into an ALLN track, it doesn't ship.
- 02
Every control earns its place.
Each knob is there because it earned its place in a real writing session. If it doesn't make the music better, it doesn't go in.
- 03
Your music comes first.
These are tools for your songs. Less hunting for the right sound, more time making something.
Made in the margins
Started the same way: late at night, with a lot of care.
My album, Finding the Time, came out of late nights and stolen hours, an hour here and a weekend there. Hyss Audio started the same way, and it's built with the same care I put into the tapes and one-of-a-kind collages for my own releases.
Come make something
Play Dustwave free in your browser, join the waitlist for the plugin, and send us what you make with it. Hearing these sounds turn up in other people's music is the whole point.
